Things coming together piece by piece
The top left corner picture is the room that stay for few days when i first came, the bottom room is a student accomodation at bower terrace cost $450 a month including bills, comes with a small bathroom (ensuite) this is my backup option, the below room is where i stayed for 2 weeks for $100/week while i look for permanent accomodation, staying in this room really upset my mood alot as there isn't wardrobe, the bed is very soft and springy, no radiator, hot water only last 1min.... i felt dreadful living here and was really down..... the room on the right is what i was waiting for to be available.... is a bunk bed with desk beneath the bed.... the room is small but is only gonna cost $150 with bills included and i would be living with 3 other student from my school.
Because i was so upset during my time renting for 2 weeks, the location is far as well and i have to take 2 buses to reach school or else i have to walk 30mins to city to take bus to school. So i went slightly over budget with rent to have a comfortable place called home, otherwise i might be back in Malaysia soon due to failure to settle.
This is my permanent location now at boxley road 5mins to school by car and 15mins by bicycle. I paid $550/month including bills. The room is medium size and comes with small bathroom (ensuite). Everything is brand new just refurbished and i'm the first person to move in. The kitchen is very modern equip with oven and microwave and dish washer as well. Washing machine and dryer is a must have for me.
I love this place alot as i kept investing in my bedroom to make it more comfy, the duvet, mattress protector, bed sheet and pillow are of high quality. I bought art as well and order lots of stuff from amazon and ikea which have yet to arrive. I wouldn't have splurge so much if it wasn't from the bad experience i had from the previous room, cause basically those 2 week plus walking at least 1 hr a day due to bad location and feeling very tired due to poor sleep affects my ability to social. Being the only Asian in the class doesn't really help as majority of people in my class speak french and they just click and stay together. I have to be proactive in social. As i was having a bad time and transport is crap, i didn't join fresher party or saturday night drinking session, the best time to mingle.
Currently i have 2 new housemate (french guy) that just move in. They are Robin and Pierrick 25 and 24 yold. We are able to click and for that i'm happy. Robin has a car and today we went to Ikea for some shopping for kitchen utensils.
The second day when i move in was a nightmare, because the pan that the owner provided is super cheapskate, it generate alot of smoke and during the night when i was cooking steak, the fire alarm went off, whole 7 alarm in the house went off together, it was crazy and i panic like hell. The fire alarm didn't stop after 30mins, the agent don't want to pick up my phone since its off hour and i don't have the owner number. In the end because i have so much time i manually disable 5 alarm using a knife peeler to unscrew the screw, obviously my thumb is bleeding, however the noise did manage to go down as 2 alarm is ringing now (they are too high for me to reach). It took 2.5hours for the owner to arrive and use a master key to reset the alarm (so the alarm went on for 2.5hr basically). What a welcome gift, but i'm now pretty much an expert in dealing with fire alarm and the experience made me more comfortable living in the house since i dis-alarm 5 fire alarm in the house.
Regarding the art of throwing rubbish in UK is so new to me, i have to spend 30mins on studying how to throw rubbish online.
So from here you can see i have 3 bins in my house 1)refuse bin (black) 2)recyling bin (light green) 3)food waste bin (small dark green)
Refuse bin for general garbage and recycling bin is collected once every fortnight (friday) alternately. Food waste bin is collected once every week. No plastic allow in recycling and food waste bin, have to use bio compostable liner. On the garbage collection day, you have to push out the correct bin to the pathway at 7am for collection.
Lastly i like buying grocery in UK because they have To Use By Date and is super convenient for me. The dates are on vegetables and meat as well. Well as you can see obviously Malaysia doesn't have this kinda service. They even have bulky collection that you can book for unwanted furniture and electrical appliance. Everything here is so organised.
